ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Ensures safe, environmentally sound, reliable refinery operations through effective routine and turnaround maintenance and the effective execution of capital project improvements to the refinery.
  • Assures the Maintenance, Turnarounds and Capital Projects organizations are capable and sustainable
  • Leads organization to deliver on budget commitments across the three departments in the magnitude of $60 million each department totaling $180million
  • Assures that the refinery has a long range strategy across Capital Projects and Turnarounds
  • Assures refinery is competitive across all three departments with respect to Cost and Operational Availability
  • Ensures compliance with current and future standards, regulations, laws and directives for the safe operation of the refinery
  • Serve as a Sponsor on various results delivery and governance teams including Turnaround Strategy Team, Goal Zero results Delivery Team, Cost Competitiveness Team and Capital Screening Committee and Refinery Contract Review Board.
  • Interfaces with United Steel Worker Union Leadership to facilitate effective working relationships and is a member of the refinery Workers Committee
  • Monitors the performance of refinery systems
  • Ensures compliance with health, safety & environmental regulations

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by the General Manager, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years of related experience and with a minimum of 5 years of working knowledge in the industry in a leadership position.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

A significant amount of experience with refineries in the energy industry is preferred.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree preferably in a technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience, is required.

 

Required Skills

Role is a leader of other Managers. Experienced and skilled at coaching leaders.  Should possess strong problem-solving, interpersonal, organizational, leadership, analytical, ability to effectively communicate with others, both verbal and written communication.

 

General understanding of corporate governance practices, handling regulatory compliance including State, Federal and various other government authorities.

 

Ability to lead business process improvement initiatives and technical implementations. Depending on assignment, may require working knowledge of HES (Process safety management, environmental compliance, OEMS); and FEL process for capital projects, T/A and non-T/A. Intermediate reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Lead department of approximately 100 staff and craft company employees, 3 manager level direct reports

 

Work Conditions

Office and refinery based with up to 10% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment, including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, working in closed confined spaces, wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions, and exposure to the risk of electrical shock. Depending on location may be exposed to high-stress environment and long hours. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions may require lifting up to 50 lbs, sitting, climbing up to the height of a unit, and bending.  In some locations, must be available for weekend and after hour call-outs.  Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).   May be required to work in confined spaces.  Ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is required.

Salary Range:  The salary range includes the minimum, midpoint, and maximum base salary values.  A candidate's offer can vary depending on differentiating factors, including but not limited to education, training, or experience.

This position has a salary minimum of $188,600.00 and maximum of $350,200.00.
