Basic Function

Conducts engineering duties for the rotating equipment discipline and functions as a technical specialist, formulating and developing engineering solutions.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Provides rotating equipment engineering assistance, direction and solutions
  • Solves technical challenges related to unit operations and capital projects in assigned areas
  • Upgrades, designs, configures, maintains, and monitors related equipment and performance
  • Analyzes related components and systems, processes and methods, and refinery processes and economics
  • Develops initial project scopes (DG0)for approval and ensures projects meet budget as well as refinery and OSHA standards
  • Ensures the maintenance and integrity of applicable rotating equipment data
  • Analyzes data to aid operations with decisions regarding rotating equipment
  • Researches and stays abreast of assigned discipline subjects, innovations and leading edge developments
  • Develops systems to document and track the maintenance of rotating equipment systems

May be required to do some or all of the following:

  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and participate in and facilitate incident investigations and Management of Change
  • Participate in Process Safety related audits and Layers Of Protection Analysis (LOPA) reviews and assist in Process Safety action items solution development
  • Conduct research to develop new and improved rotating equipment solutions; e.g., wireless vibration monitoring
  • Investigate and resolve work-in-process problems
  • Recommend and implement improvements and/or modification in sequence of operations, equipment utilization, and related matters
  • Review proposals of outside vendors regarding the purchase of new or modernization of existing processing equipment
  • Improve reliability, safety, and profitability of the refinery

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

A minimum of five years of progressive related work experience.  A strong understanding of basic refinery processes and the elements of process safety is advantagous.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline is required. 

Required Skills

Ability to manage technical changes is essential.  Working knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically.  Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential.  Ability to communicate effectively with others, strong verbal communication skills, advanced level of reading and writing, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations.  Advanced ability to work effectively with multiple groups throughout the refinery.  Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications knowledge; strong interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to provide training to multiple groups on a variety of applicable assigned discipline topics. 

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May be responsible for the supervision of personnel as well as contractors.

Work Conditions

Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required.  Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceiving color differences,  required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid state driver's license and proof of insurance required.  Job conditions may require making precise hand and finger movements, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.

Salary Range:  The salary range includes the minimum, midpoint, and maximum base salary values.  A candidate's offer can vary depending on differentiating factors, including but not limited to education, training, or experience.

This position has a salary minimum of $92,300.00, midpoint of $126,400.00, and maximum of $160,500.00.
