Title:  Document Control and Drafting Supervisor

Basic Function

HF Sinclair’s Navajo Refinery located in Artesia, NM is seeking a Document Control & Drafting Supervisor to champion the sites drawing and document management work processes. 

Job Duties

  • Maintains the refinery’s electronic drawing and document management system (OpenText). Responsible for ensuring the site meets or exceeds the requirements of Document Control Policies and Standards.
  • Reviews scopes of work and assigns work to drafters and designers. Strategically distributes workloads of drafters and ensures timely completion of updates.
  • Develops specialized methods and techniques required for projects and trains designers and drafters in conjunction with management
  • Performs routine audits to verify document control compliance. Reviews and checks various drawing for correctness
  • Acts as liaison between engineers and drafters to coordinate project tasks effectively
  • Ensures files for drawings and equipment are maintained in the filing system
  • Participates in the Management of Change (MOC) process by coordinating and managing as-built drawing/document updates for the refinery
  • Manages the refinery Drawing Number Index, Line Number Index, and Equipment Number Index.
  • Trains personnel on document control requirements and the use of OpenText
  • Represents the Navajo Refinery and participates in the fleet wide Technical Network on Documentation Requirements.
  • Maintains drafting equipment


Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their superior, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion


A minimum of five years of progressive experience in an engineering document control or drafting function is required. Knowledge and previous experience working with and electronic document management system such as OpenText is required.



Supervisory experience and previous experience in the refining or petrochemical industry is preferred.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.

Required Skills

Ability to train, develop and mentor designers and drafters of all levels. Current knowledge of industry standards and governmental requirements. Working knowledge of drafting procedures and engineering specialty discipline; strong spreadsheet, database and word processing applications knowledge; ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, technical information to all types of users, decision-making, analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Advanced reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May be responsible for the supervision of approximately five employees and/or contract draftsmen.

Work Conditions

Office based with travel up to 10% by land and air required. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.
