Basic Function

HF Sinclair Midstream is seeking a Pipeline Construction Technician located in Artesia, NM.  The Pipeline Construction Technician conducts assignments and duties for the Pipeline Department under general supervision. Leads the work of others from time to time as required.

Job Duties

(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Receives and executes directions from Supervisor Monitor, assist, lead and coordinate construction and maintenance inspections and projects according to Holly Energy’s construction guidelines ensuring installation and repair quality under direct instruction.
  • Ensures adherence to HEPs safety guidelines, standards and environmental standards, Following safety rules and regulations, to promote a positive safety culture and environmental awareness for safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance concerns
  • Assists in determining acceptable pipeline routes
  • Assists with scheduling and prioritizing construction and maintenance projects to ensure timely completion and minimize operational or business interruptions
  • and monitors project cost control in area of responsibility
  • Coordinates and plans project timelines and costs, and maintenance and construction projects with operations groups as well as with contractors
  • Assist to ensure inspectors and contractors in the timely completion and commissioning of projects
  • Maintains accurate construction records and files per compliance requirements
  • Turns in periodic documentation as required on time to designated person/department (signed contractor invoices and daily work sheets, near misses, safety points, updated progress reports)

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

 

Experience

A minimum of three years of related pipeline experience with two years of experience in Pipeline maintenance and construction and pipeline repair methods and two years of experience in overseeing or supervising contractors is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required. 

Required Skills

Working knowledge of pipeline department. Proficient with spreadsheet, electronic mail and word processing applications. Good planning, problem-solving, team, organizational, critical thinking, ability to effectively communicate with others, both verbal and written communication, contractor relations and customer service skills. Ability to read alignment sheets and blue prints. Self-starter with ability to move work forward without direct supervision and learn and apply new concepts. Basic reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Familiarity with and working knowledge of pipe fabricating practices, OSHA confined space and excavation requirements and safety equipment and monitoring devices such as four gas air monitors, ultrasonic thickness devices, GPS units, etc. are preferred.

 

Work Conditions

Office and field based with up to 50% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment, and driver based environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, working in confined spaces, and exposure to the risk of electrical shock. Required to work long, irregular hours, on call duties and ability to respond to calls 24/7 for emergency response. Subject to all temperatures, weather, and varying road conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 40lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 40lbs, climbing up to 60ft, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid state driver license and proof of insurance required, perceiving color differences, ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted), and strenuous physical activity.
