Basic Function

Oversees activities of the Process Engineering Department. 

Job Duties

▪ Manages the process engineering and technical needs of the refinery.

▪ Directs the engineering team to assist operations in optimizing the profitability of the plant and each process unit.

▪ Provides strategic direction for future success and profitability of the facility.

▪ Ensures compliance with current and future standards, regulations, laws and directives for the safe operation of the plant.

▪ Coordinates process and design changes/improvements for the plant.

▪ Schedules and prioritizes process engineering work.

▪ Oversees the maintenance of records of all process scope and engineering work performed by the group and provides regular updates.

▪ Provides Engineering support through staff engineers to Maintenance, Operations, Safety, Environmental, and Inspection Departments.

▪ Develops area assignments for personnel in the Engineering Departments.

▪ Aligns project assignments to support expertise development relative to area assignments.

▪ Provides Unit Startup assistance for existing as well as new facilities.

▪ Communicates observations made via recommendations to the Operations Department.

▪  Monitors and tracks catalyst and chemical performance and usage.

▪ Assists Operations in all catalyst and chemical applications including providing guidelines for startup and/or usage.

▪ Serves as a technical subject matter expert in all PHA’s.

▪ Performs economic analysis and completes ROI reports for capital upgrades.

▪ Ensures scope development and Engineering meet targeted criteria in all projects.

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of 8 years of on-the-job experience, a significant amount of experience in the refining industry is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a science or related engineering field, is required.

Required Skills

Advanced ability to lead and direct the work of other associates. Advanced spreadsheet, database, and word processing applications knowledge; interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to develop quality controls and read and assess statistical and operational reports. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication. Advanced reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.      

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Responsible for the supervision of approximately five employees.

Work Conditions

Office based with up to 20% travel by land or air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment, including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment and working in confined spaces. Subject to all temperatures varying road and weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences,  required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards not permitted), strenuous physical activity. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
