Basic Function

Reporting to the Manager, Blending and Terminal Operations, and based out of Red Giant Oil Company, LLC, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the Operations Manager is responsible for safely leading and directing the workforce in the blending, transferring and loading of petroleum products. The Operations Manager is accountable for workforce safety, environmental compliance and the health of the workforce engaged in operations at the Council Bluffs, Iowa facility.  This position is not eligible for company-sponsored relocation benefits.  

Job Duties

  • Directs the work of (3) Bulk Operators including testing, blending, storage and handling of all petroleum products
  • Directs (1) Warehouser in all shipping & receiving, packaging and distribution of non-bulk petroleum products
  • Ensures grounds and maintenance of the Council Bluffs facility and equipment are secured, maintained properly and pose no harm to the community
  • Manages and directs workforce to ensure compliance with regulatory mandates; provides a safe working environment for workforce
  • Utilizes company software to perform applicable duties on the day-to-day (Microsoft Office, SAP, timekeeping platform, etc.)
  • Must be available outside of standard working hours (7:00AM-3:30PM) to handle any incident that may occur
  • Reviews operational reports and provides explanations and corrective actions for unfavorable variances
  • Receives and processes all railcars using applicable software and subsequently transfers product to trucks for product delivery
  • Month-end reporting of inventory to Accounting Department
  • Operates applicable equipment to move railcars

Experience

  • 5-7 years of experience in operations or production-based positions
  • 3-5 years of experience leading people
  • Experience in oil & gas industry preferred (not required), such as: heavy and light oils and/or locomotive engine oil, blending, packaging and distribution

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management or field applicable to this position preferred
  • A combination of education and relevant job experience may be considered

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

  • Responsible for the supervision of 4 employees

Work Conditions

Petroleum plant-based environment based (75%) and office-based (25%).  Subject to all weather conditions, including outdoors and varying road conditions. Depending on assignment, may be exposed to close confined spaces.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 50lbs, pushing and/or pulling 25lbs, climbing up to 150ft, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted), and strenuous physical activity.
