Basic Function

The Data Scientist works on price optimization and opportunity identification leveraging forecasted outcomes from market fundamentals and internal supply/demand signals. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading data science initiatives that drive business profitability, increase efficiency and improve decision-making frameworks. They will assist in the development of the Pricing Advanced Analytics Infrastructure that informs decision making and drives improvements to the Pricing Strategy. The Data Scientist is expected to seek out opportunities to leverage data science as a competitive advantage.

 

The Data Scientist will apply advanced econometric and analytical methods and algorithms to identify insights and provide business solutions. This role is expected to present insights and recommendations to non-technical audiences and explain the benefits and impacts of the recommended solutions. In addition, the Data Scientist will collaborate with cross-functional teams, requiring effective communication skills, relationship-building, and a strong focus on understanding the overall business being supported.

Job Duties

  • Solution Development - Design and develop algorithms and models to use against large datasets to create Pricing insights; Participate in large data analytics project teams by serving as a technical lead for Pricing; May lead small projects and work independently on solution development; Execute tasks with high levels of efficiency and quality; Make appropriate selection, utilization and interpretation of advanced econometric and analytical methodologies
  • Communicating Results - Effectively communicate insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical leaders and business customers/partners; Present recommendations in a confident manner in order to influence the execution of recommendations; Prepare reports, updates and/or presentations related to progress made on a project or solution; Clearly communicate impacts of recommendations to drive alignment and appropriate implementation
  • Business Collaboration - Incorporate business inputs into solution approach; Effectively develop trust and collaboration with internal customers and cross-functional teams
  • Technical Exploration & Development - Seek further knowledge on key developments within econometrics, data science, technical skill sets, and additional data sources; Build and maintain library of reusable analytics for future use, ensuring methodologies are documented

Experience

Three to five years of related work experience is required, depending on education level.

Education Level

A minimum of a PhD in Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field is required.

Required Skills

  • Proficient in Python and SQL
  • Mastery utilizing statistical techniques to identify key insights that help solve business problems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in predictive modeling techniques such as optimization, forecasting, or recommendation engines
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data mining, exploratory data analysis, and predictive modeling

 

PREFERRED SKILLS: Experience with pricing software and systems.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May be required to provide work direction to entry level financial analysts.

Work Conditions

Office based.
