Basic Function

HF Sinclair is looking for a Enviornmental Specailist to performs environmental assignments and duties for the HF Sinclair Midstream Environmental Department under minimal supervision. Directs or leads the work of others from time-to-time.

Job Duties

  • Provides oversight for all midstream waste management programs and activities including hazardous waste, nonhazardous waste, recycling, and municipal waste
  • Manages RCRA compliance programs, including groundwater well monitoring, previously contaminated sites, and remediation projects
  • Coordinates all waste characterization, movement and disposal for midstream operations
  • Identifies opportunities for waste minimization and recycling
  • Audits waste minimization performance
  • Directs contract waste handling personnel
  • Integrates waste management plans for projects and manages waste logistics
  • Stays current with applicable Federal, State, and local regulations governing waste management
  • May monitor and coordinate the packaging, transport and disposal of hazardous materials and non-hazardous wastes in compliance with regulations 
  • May monitor and coordinate the testing and reporting of waste, wastewater, storm water, and hydro test water in compliance with regulations and permits
  • May prepare reports pursuant to a consent decree and various permit conditions with respect to EPCRA, CERCLA, TSCA, CWA and OPA.
  • May assist in annual ESG reporting   
  • May oversee budgeting costs associated with environmental compliance and contractor/consultant work products
  • Participates in third party compliance audits of Company facilities
  • Represents the company to governmental environmental agencies, the public, and trade/professional associations and interfaces with regulatory agencies to ensure understanding of, and compliance with, all applicable environmental regulations and requirements

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of two years of extensive industry and on-the-job experience is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a related field is required.

Required Skills

Strong communication skills and good technical writing skills. Working knowledge of environmental regulations required.  General understanding of oil refining processes and midstream operations. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication. Knowledge of laws, pronouncements and regulations pertaining to environmental operations at midstream operations.  Excellent planning, organizational, time management and analytical skills; and ability to present publicly.  Training in hazardous waste regulations, DOT Hazmat Shipping, and OSHA Hazmat certification. Advanced reading, writing and computer skills.

Preferred Expereince:

Special training in RCRA, CWA, OPA, EPCRA, and Wastewater compliance, and a Certification in DOT transportation is preferred. Ability to lead and train a small group of employees in a Technical Expert capacity.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May lead the work of others.

Work Conditions

Office and petroleum refinery environment based and may require up to 10% travel, by land or air. Subject to all weather conditions, including out of doors and varying road conditions. Occasionally exposed risk of electrical shock during the course of work. Depending on assignment, may be exposed to close confined spaces.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying and pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 100 ft., reaching or grasping; required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), and strenuous activity .
