Title: HF Alkylation Operation Specialist

Basic Function
HF Sinclair is seeking a HF Alkylation Operation Specialist anyhwhere in the US preferably in Dallas who will provide deep technical operations expertise and leadership for the safe, reliable, and profitable operation of Hydrofluoric Acid Alkylation units. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, internal risk management protocols, and industry best practices while driving continuous improvement in all operational performance areas.
Job Duties
Fleet Technical Leadership
- Serves as the fleet authority on HF Alkylation process operations, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Develops and maintains minimum standards for Fleet HF Alky’s Operations, Hardware & Execution. Includes, but is not limited to OEMS Standards, key operating parameters (limits) for fleet HF Alky units (in conjunction with technical authorities), etc
- Leads and/or drives the HFS HF Alky Community of Practice (COP)
- Assists sites in turnaround planning for alkylation units including reviews for startup, shutdown, and unit clearing procedures
- Provides ad hoc support and troubleshooting for complex alkylation issues to assist site resources
- Leads and/or coordinates fleet alkylation specific training
Assure Site Programs (Manages and conducts audits and evaluations of site HF Alky Units in alignment with min standards including API 751) including:
- HF risk reduction strategies.
- HF handling, acid purity standards, and abnormal condition response.
- Incidents investigations and root cause analyses for HF-related events and in some cases lead investigations
- Each HF Alky unit has an appropriate improvement plan based on past incidents, industry learnings, API 751 Assessments, risk assessments (QRA, PHA, etc)
- Emergency response protocols, drills, and HF release mitigation plans.
- PPE requirements and HF sampling approaches (including safety procedures).
- HF Alkylation training programs
Continuous Improvement
- Identifies and drives initiatives to improve reliability, minimize acid losses, and optimize alkylate quantity and quality.
- Collaborates on technology evaluations and safer alternatives assessments.
- Trains and mentors site resources to educate and imprint key alkylation technical and operational principles
Cross-Site & Industry Engagement
- Represents the company in HF Alkylation best practice networks and industry forums.
- Shares lessons learned and benchmark performance against peers.
- Remains current in HF Alky advancements, regulations, methodologies, and/or technology by attending professional development conferences, seminars, programs, and/or meetings
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their manager, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
Experience
A minimum of 10 years in refining operations with at least 5 years in HF Alkylation units is required.
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent or a combination of relevant experience and the education.
Preferred Education
API RP 751 training.
Required Skills
In-depth knowledge of HF Alkylation chemistry, process flow, and equipment. Familiarity with corrosion mechanisms, acid regeneration, and fractionation systems. Strong leadership and communication skills. Ability to influence cross-functional teams and manage change.
Preferred Skill
Experience with industry best practice networks and benchmarking. Advanced training in incident investigation and risk assessment methodologies.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
Leads and/or coordinate fleet alkylation-specific training and mentor site resources. May lead investigations and drive improvement plans across multiple sites.
Work Conditions
Approximately 50% travel is estimated for site visits and company/industry meetings. Ad hoc support may require travel on short notice as dictated by site needs.
