Basic Function

HF Sinclair Corporation is seeking a Maintenance Practices Leader to be based out of multiple locations. Supports all refinery locations in Maintenance Excellence by implementing and enhancing risk-based and lean management practices: including planning, scheduling, execution, reliability-based maintenance activities, and effective work practices and procedures.

Job Duties

  • Leads the Maintenance network consisting of maintenance managers from the entire fleet. Facilitate regular network meetings which promote information sharing and networking across sites and adoption of best practices.
  • Develops a vision for maintenance network and function that supports overall refining vision of safe, clean, reliable and competitive operation. Lead maintenance network to aspire to that vision and share learnings.
  • Develops and continuously improve key performance metrics that show the health of each sites maintenance system
  • Acts as resource of industry best practices and developments in the maintenance fields.
  • Leads innovation and technology development that supports improvements towards maintenance excellence.
  • Identifies and documents the best practices in place today if not already in place, including SAP EAM Maintenance workflow.
  • Takes learnings from Lean initiatives at various sites and develop the HF Sinclair Lean Maintenance model. Support continuous improvement at sites that have implemented, and drive the implementation for those who have not yet started. 
  • Leads needs analysis for various corporate maintenance practices that do not currently exist. Steward the development and implementation of work practices across the fleet. 
  • Stewards super user network for SAP EAM to innovate and improve the system to support the maintenance vision.
  • Develops and continuously improve metrics that show the health of each sites maintenance system
  • Stewards the development of tools to make metrics visible and easily obtainable. Regularly communicate metrics and insight into them. 
  • Leads benchmarking of site maintenance performance vs. industry for competiveness and effectiveness; identify opportunities for improvement; support improvement efforts.
  • Evaluates and recommends training and career development opportunities for maintenance professionals throughout the organization.

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their manager, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion


A minimum of 10 years of experience related to refinery routine maintenance and reliability are required.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience, is required.

Required Skills

Ability to lead and direct senior level managers in the improvement of reliability and maintenance.  Strong interpersonal and decision making skills and ability to build technical and operational capability. Good spreadsheet, database and word processing applications knowledge; strong written and verbal communication, negotiating, time-management and organizational skills.  Ability to communicate effectively with others and influence multiple operations.  Advanced reading and writing skills and the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.



A significant amount of experience in the energy industry and special training in project management is preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

No direct supervision of personnel.


Work Conditions

Office-based with warehouse and refinery environment exposure with travel up to 50% of the time by land or air.  Up to 60% of time will be required to work in petroleum refinery environment.  Subject to all weather and varying road conditions

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise finger and hand movements, reaching or grasping, climbing up to 250 ft, ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted).
