Basic Function
HF Sinclair is seeking an Operational Technology Specialist. As part of the corporate operational technology team, this role provides regional support and assurance to sites through maintaining, protecting and improving operational technology systems. This role will be a liaison providing operational technology reviews, gap assessments and road mapping exercises in support of technical networks amongst the regions.
Job Duties
- Designs, implements, and maintains control systems and advanced process control applications
- Develops procedures and documentation and adheres to OT policies, procedures, and best practices
- Implements and maintenances of new systems, networks, security practices and solutions as well as effective improvements to existing security controls as guided by Corp. OT Cybersecurity Specialist
- Leads sites for control optimization, alarm management and control performance monitoring efforts as guided by Corp. Controls Lead
- Provides support for instrumentation care, maintenance, and testing intervals, safety instrumented system integration efforts as guided by Corp. Instrumentation leadership
- Troubleshoots control system issues to identify and resolve technical problems
- Collaborates with process engineers to understand operational requirements
- Improves key performance and key risk indicator metrics
- Assists sites with plans and implements equipment upgrades to mitigate system obsolescence
- Interfaces with internal and external auditors for risk assessments
- Maintains vendor management standards, questionnaires and documentation to adhere to regulatory compliance
- Interacts with key site leaders (Engineering Managers, Technical Service Managers, etc.) to provide updates and information and to understand site concerns/needs
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time, are at the supervisor’s sole and complete discretion.
Experience
A minimum of eight years of industry and related operational technology specialty experience is required.
Education Level
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related engineering discipline or information systems/security is required.

Ability to communicate technical plans, strategies and designs with all levels of the organization. Knowledge of refinery principles, safety practices and regulatory compliance procedures and demonstrated competency in the execution of multiple projects. Possesses highly effective communications skills with the ability to influence business units. Acts with integrity, takes pride in work and seeks to excel, be curious and adaptable. Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and the evolving threat landscape. Is highly trustworthy and leads by example.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
Work Conditions
Office based with up to 75% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery and warehouse/plant environment, including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and rotating equipment, loud noises and vibrations. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions.

Job conditions require sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, perceiving color differences, and wearing personal protective equipment (beards not permitted).
