Basic Function

Gain hands-on experience supporting Monitoring and Optimization (M&O) Engineers in refinery monitoring and optimization activities, including process performance analysis, digital tool application, and project work that helps advance the capabilities of the M&O Center. This role offers exposure to real-time operational support, data-driven problem solving, and cross-site collaboration within HF Sinclair operations.

Job Duties

  • Coordinates project assignments with Monitoring and Optimization team

 

May be required to do some or all of the following:

  • Support daily monitoring activities, including alert screening, KPI review, process trend analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist M&O Engineers in identifying abnormal operating conditions and potential equipment or process performance issues.
  • Use analytical tools such as Seeq, PI Vision, DataPARC, and Power BI to evaluate refinery operating data.
  • Develop or improve monitoring strategies, calculations, dashboards, and visualizations for process units and equipment.
  • Review historical process upsets, equipment failures, and reliability events to identify new monitoring opportunities.
  • Assist with investigation of potential causes of process deviations, unit performance changes, or equipment concerns.
  • Collaborate with refinery site teams to understand process unit operations and support data-driven troubleshooting.
  • Document monitoring logic, project findings, analysis methods, and recommended actions.
  • Complete assigned intern project work focused on improving M&O Center capability, workflow efficiency, or site support.
  • Present project results, insights, and recommendations to M&O Engineers, leadership, or refinery stakeholders.
 
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their manager, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

None

Education Level

Some completed courses needed for a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering are required.
 
Preferred Education Level: completion of Junior level engineering courses is preferred.

Required Skills

Basic knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically.  Basic ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential.  Basic knowledge of Microsoft products.
