Title:  Reporting & Analytics Intern

Date:  Sep 15, 2026
Location:

Dallas, TX, US, 75219

Basic Function

HF Sinclair in Dallas, TX is looking for a Summer 2027 Reporting & Analytics Intern.

Are you curious about how data actually powers decisions at a Fortune 500 energy company? HF Sinclair is a Dallas-based energy company with operations across the United States, producing fuels, lubricants, renewable energy products, and other essentials people use every day. Our Reporting, Analytics & Data Automation team sits at the center of that business, turning complex operational, commercial, and corporate data into insights that leaders act on across refining, midstream, renewables, EHS, and corporate functions.

As a Reporting & Analytics Intern, you will do far more than build reports. You will work alongside analysts, data scientists, Power BI developers, and business leaders to understand real business questions, shape the metrics that answer them, and deliver dashboards and automation that teams use every day. This is a business-first analytics role: we care as much about your ability to understand a business problem and explain an answer as we do about the tools you use to solve it.

Job Duties

  • Design and build interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that turn raw data into clear business insight, helping leaders spot trends, track KPIs, and make faster decisions. You will learn visualization best practices and see your work adopted by real teams.
  • Apply analytical and statistical thinking to large enterprise datasets to find patterns, test assumptions, and surface opportunities. You will practice trend analysis, KPI measurement, and the kind of structured problem solving that separates a chart from an answer.
  • Use SQL, Excel, Power Query, and DAX to clean, join, and organize data from multiple business systems into trusted reporting solutions. You will get exposure to semantic modeling concepts such as star schemas and to enterprise sources including SAP, SQL databases, and operational platforms.
  • Sit down with stakeholders across the organization to understand their questions, define what success looks like, and translate findings into recommendations they can act on. You will present your work to both technical and non-technical audiences and help teams adopt what you build.
  • Support our push into data automation, self-service analytics, and AI-assisted reporting. Manual processes are everywhere in a large enterprise, and one of the most satisfying things an intern can do here is replace a recurring spreadsheet with something that runs itself.

Experience

None.

Education Level

Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in a business, analytics, information systems, or related field.

Required Skills

We are looking for business-minded students who love technology and problem solving. If you enjoy puzzles, finding patterns, building visual stories, and helping people make better decisions, you will fit here, whether or not you have written a line of DAX yet. Business, business analytics, finance, economics, supply chain, management information systems, and other business-focused degrees are strongly encouraged to apply, as are technical majors with genuine business curiosity.

Required skills include the following:

  • Coursework, projects, or personal experience involving data analysis, reporting, or problem solving with data
  • Working proficiency in Excel and a willingness to learn Power BI, SQL, and Power Query
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Skills:

  • Exposure to Power BI, including Power Query, DAX, or data modeling
  • Familiarity with SQL for joins, validation, and troubleshooting
  • Interest in the energy industry, including refining, midstream, asphalt, or renewables
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 tools such as Power Apps, Power Automate, Planner, or Visio
  • Curiosity about AI-assisted analytics, chatbots, or process automation
