Basic Function

Reporting to the Director of Sales, White Oils and home-based in the state of Texas, the Sales Manager position is responsible for conducting high-level and complex sales and business development assignments for assigned White Oil and Specialty Products with complete autonomy.  This role defines, plans and implements long-term sales and business development strategies for our Sonneborn, LLC business, a wholly-owned subisidary of HF Sinclair Corporation.  At HF Sinclair, we are powered by experience and driven by our people to provide world-class products and innovative solutions for our customers and stakeholders. Job Duties

  • Contacts existing and prospective customers, distributors and builds business relationships in all levels of the organization
  • Coordinates closely with other Sales and Segment Marketing Managers to achieve the companies’ sales and marketing goals and objectives for assigned specialty and white oil products as well as day-to-day sales objectives of the assigned geography and industries
  • Coordinates with key internal stakeholders and participates in cross-functional team activities to identify new and specialized products to meet a client’s specific needs
  • Identifies, defines and assists to develop new or specialized products and markets for white oils and specialty ingredients such as petrolatum, microcrystalline waxes and natural emollients to grow the business
  • Develops, recommends and implements long-term sales plan and pricing strategies
  • Responsible for analyzing and maintaining an accurate forecast
  • Responsible for analyzing and reviewing pricing and volume performance and trends
  • Responsible for completing adequate call reports, account plans and updates leveraging SalesForce
  • Makes daily pricing recommendations, participates in customer RFIs and RFQs, negotiates sales contracts and produces complex business proposals
  • Works with Chemists, Research and Development, Formulators, Process Engineers, and all levels of customer management to gain product approvals for various end use applications
  • Researches market conditions. Collects and analyzes market data to verify price information, assess competitors, identify other potential sales opportunities, new product needs and additional target markets
  • Assists with crisis management in response to supply interruptions, which may include production, loading, quality or transportation issues
  • Coordinates with various departments and personnel to facilitate timely supply of products and invoicing. This may include quality, transportation, regulatory, credit, transportation, customer service and others
  • Represents the company at industry functions and association meetings and assists with developing marketing materials and technical bulletins
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their manager, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of Account Management experience within the Petrochemical industry with business to business and new business development sales experience is required
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience is required
  • Good understanding of customers, competitors and markets, new technologies, global supply/demand dynamics
  • Experience in the sales or technical sales of specialty chemicals or white oils is preferred 

Education

  • Post-secondary education required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Chemistry or Engineering is preferred
  • MBA considered an asset

  • Experience using SalesForce, Power BI, SAP an asset
  • Strong crisis management skills: ability to handle situations involving conflicts arising out of products being off specification, short/long term refinery/logistical /human error problems causing product outages, customer complaints, etc. 
  • Advanced interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with others at all levels of an organization in writing or verbally
  • Ability to perform intermediate level mathematical calculations
  • Ability to perform a variety of high-level, complex assignments related to assigned petroleum product, assigned petroleum product marketing and trade assignments effectively, execute sales opportunities and multi-task
  • Depending upon assignment, the ability to understand the chemical/technical characteristics of specialized petroleum and natural based products
  • An understanding of supply and distribution and refining procedures is preferred

Work Conditions

  • This position requires the incumbent to operate from his/her home office 
  • Frequent travel by road and air, potentially across broad geography (North American travels – minimum 50%)
  • The ideal candidate will reside in South Central US and live within an hour of an international airport
  • A company vehicle allowance program may be provided depending on address of residence
  • This position includes both base salary as well as annual bonus target
  • Driving risks associated with driving considerable distances
  • Considerable amount time spent outside of normal working hours
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided
