Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Strategic Business Planner in Dallas, TX who will be  responsible for conducting specific asset analysis, prepares metrics and reporting assignments for assigned department with minimal supervision.  Internally considered a subject matter expert in area.

Job Duties

  • Creates and analyzes competitive metrics for Company assets
  • Uses past knowledge and experience to provide recommendations on projects and initiatives
  • Works with the refinery teams to assist in determining the projects and initiatives that economically improve the competitive position of our assets
  • Recommends and assists in driving the applicable teams to a solution for large commercial initiatives
  • Performs economic analysis and presents discretionary and required capital projects for the capital committee
  • Assists with stewarding project process and capital committee preparation
  • Coordinates between point of view and asset strategy to set priorities, actively participate in commercial strategic studies and drive overall timeline for strategic conclusions
  • With the commercial team, develops commercial and market strategies to improve commercial netbacks and overall competitive position
  • Participates in regional developments and strategies (e.g. LCFS/Cap and Trade, fuels specification changes, pipeline commitments and tariffs)
  • Regularly interfaces with Senior leadership in commercial, operations, capital projects and  corporate finance

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

 

Experience

Refinery economics and planning experience are required.  Five years plus of experience in refining or petrochemicals are required (at least 10 preferred) with a full understanding of refinery asset configuration and experience leading a successful project is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field is required.

Required Skills

Ability to determine and develop multiple approaches to increasing plan profitability and quantitatively evaluating each approach as well as the ability to apply risk/reward factors. Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential.  Proficient with Microsoft products and experience with engineering software is required. LP, simulation, or modeling software demonstrated experience required.  Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with others.   Familiarity with standards and practices of the specific discipline.  Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations and modeling.  Economic thinker that has the ability to build trust within the organization and capable of influencing others.  Advanced Critical and Entrepreneurial Thinking with the ability to professionally and tactfully challenge thinking when needed.  Ability to make independent decisions within broad guidelines and policies.

Work Conditions

Office and plant based.  Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.
