Basic Function

HF Sinclair in Dallas, Tx is seeking a Vice President, Tax, who will lead our Tax function in all areas, overseeing global tax operations, planning, compliance, controversy, financial reporting, transfer pricing, indirect taxation (sales and use tax, excise tax, and property tax), and transactional activity.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Serves as a senior leader and advisor for the company while managing a high-functioning tax team that supports all business segments and operations to provide strategic direction and tactical support on tax matters affecting the Company
  • Oversees and directs strategic projects to optimize the Company’s effective tax rate and cash tax profile
  • Responsibility for ensuring compliance with ASC 740 (and other technical accounting rules) and other global tax reporting matters (foreign, domestic, and state), transfer pricing regulations, and indirect taxation requirements (sales and use tax, excise tax, and property tax)
  • Advises on tax implications of new domestic or foreign operating models or transactions, including tax structuring, contract evaluation and negotiation, tax due diligence, tax risk evaluation, strategic planning, and business integration
  • Identifies and implements continual improvements within tax processes, teaming, and organization
  • Monitors tax trends and legislation to assess the impact/level of risk exposure on the Company
  • Attracts and develops top talent for the right roles and maintains our company’s culture as we grow
  • Builds close working relationships with senior business leaders, serves as a strategic tax thought partner, and educates colleagues on tax topics/concepts

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive tax compliance and tax accounting experience in public accounting or a public multinational company is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Taxation or Accounting and a CPA certification is required.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION

 

Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting.

 

 

 

Required Skills

  • At least 12 years of prior experience in a management role and working with a broad group of internal and external stakeholders, including executive management, internal business units, external and internal auditors, and external tax advisors/counsel
  • Advanced technical proficiency in income tax accounting standards and application of ASC 740 and related financial reporting obligations
  • Oversight experience of domestic (federal and state) and foreign tax controversy matters, including strategic collaboration with external advisors
  • Ability to function as lead tax advisor on new business models, mergers and acquisitions, and other enterprise initiatives
  • Proficiency in various programs such as Microsoft Office and SAP, a plus

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Responsible for the direct supervision of multiple managerial positions.

Work Conditions

Office-based with travel up to 20% of the time
