Basic Function
HF Sinclair in El Dorado, KS is seeking a Fixed Equipment Engineer who conducts engineering duties for an assigned Engineering discipline and functions as a technical specialist, formulating and developing advanced engineering concepts.
Job Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)
- Provides discipline specific engineering assistance, direction and development assistance to colleagues
- Solves technical problems related to projects and troubleshoots and updates report data for business unit(s)
- Upgrades, designs, configures, maintains and monitors related equipment and performance
- Analyzes related components and systems, processes and methods, and refinery processes and economics
- Develops project scopes, budgets and AFE’s for approval and ensures projects meet budget as well as refinery and OSHA standards
- Ensures the maintenance and integrity of business unit(s) data
- Optimizes business unit(s) and analyzes data to aid operations with decisions
- Researches and stays abreast of assigned discipline subjects, innovations and leading edge developments
- Develops systems to document and track the testing and assist in the maintenance of the various systems
- Coordinate, facilitate and document Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and participate in and facilitate incident investigations
- Participate and contribute to Management of Change (MOC) processes, incident investigations, PSM audits, SIL analysis, PHA’s and Pre-start up Safety Reviews (PSSR) for fixed equipment.
- Design and size fixed plant equipment and develop appropriate maintenance practices for the plant fixed equipment
- Perform quality assurance witnessing in vendor shops for fixed equipment repairs, rerates and modifications.
- Develop, lead and implement reliability improvement initiatives to improve equipment uptime.
- Maintain metrics to accurately measure equipment reliability Mean Time Between Repair (MTBR).
- Develop engineering solutions for chronic and sporadic equipment reliability problems and work with technical, production and maintenance to implement solutions. This would include helping build and upgrade maintenance procedures and auditing to ensure improvements are sustained.
- Provide engineering support to other area personnel in areas of vibration analysis, lubrication and oil analysis, mechanical performance, and maintenance practices.
- Provide leadership to organization on the latest Reliability and Maintenance technology and Best Practices.
- Continuously seek new technology and improvement practices.
- Provide stewardship to process safety critical equipment program.
- Lead predictive and preventative maintenance on critical equipment.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive work experience in a specific engineering discipline.
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical engineering discipline is required.
Required Skills
Ability to manage a project is essential. Working knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically. Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential. Ability to communicate effectively with others, strong verbal communication skills, advanced level of reading and writing, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations. Advanced ability to work effectively with multiple groups throughout the refinery. Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications knowledge; strong interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to provide training to multiple groups on a variety of applicable assigned discipline topics.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Working knowledge of and experience with engineering software is preferred.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
May be responsible for the supervision of personnel as well as contractors.
Work Conditions
Office and plant based with up to 10% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, and out-of-doors environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions, and working in confined spaces. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions.
Physical Requirements
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceiving color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid state driver's license and proof of insurance required. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping.
