Basic Function

Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), and HF Sinclair company, located in Mississauga, ON, is seeking a Controls Systems Engineer to join the Technical Services & Automation Engineering group at the Lubricants plant.  The Controls Systems Engineer will be responsible for supporting and managing process control and process information systems. 

Job Duties

  • Support process controls systems and process information systems such as plant safety, reliability, and profitability
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, support, and improve process control systems, process information systems, hardware, software, and firmware, including network communications infrastructure in a cost effective manner
  • Managing risk assessment, evaluation and implementation of OS and applications patching, disaster recovery, anti-virus protection, cyber security, systems integration, custom applications
  • Work closely with Controls Engineers, Operations, Maintenance, local and head office IS groups including server, desktop, IS security, network, counterparts at other sites and vendors
  • Project management of process control, process information system projects, enhancements, and initiatives
  • Collaboration with other sites and head office to evaluate and ensure that systems meet company standards and industry best practices
  • Utilize good technical judgment, systems knowledge, industry best practices and PCLI standards to recommend solutions to existing issues and new requirements of the system
  • Work with cross functional team involving operations, maintenance, and contractors to troubleshoot, recommend, and implement solutions

  Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion  

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Eligible for or Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing or eligible for license in Ontario

Education Level

  • Engineering Degree in Instrumentation and Controls, Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, system hardware and software, control strategies 
  • Working knowledge of Intel based servers, workstations, Windows OS, network communications switches and firewalls, anti-virus protection, disaster recovery, cyber security
  • Excellent prioritization and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Continuous improvement, safety mindset
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and results focused
  • Hold a valid Ontario driver’s license or eligible for licensing

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of Honeywell Experion, C300, Allen-Bradley PLC, safety instrumented systems, lab information systems, plant historian databases, citrix/terminal servers, virtual machines
  • Working knowledge of databases
  • Secure wireless systems
  • Project management skills
  • Basic programming experience

Work Conditions

  • Work is mainly in the office located in Mississauga, including working in a plant environment, processing units that require appropriate PPE, and control rooms during support, troubleshooting, construction or commissioning of projects. Emergency afterhours support as required. Office and plant environment

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid drivers license and a clean driving record. Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination.  Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
