Basic Function

Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), located in Mississauga, Ontario is seeking a full-time Electrical & Instrumentation Specialist. Reporting to Team Lead E&I, the E&I Reliability Specialist/Egineer is responsible for leading activities like technical troubleshooting, management of change, asset strategy, spare part strategy and optimization, preventive maintenance program, root cause analysis (RCA), resolution of bad actors, obsolescence management, alternate part repair/replacement, and turnaround scope development to name a few. This position supports E&I maintenance and planning, turnaround execution, capital projects, and specialists/engineers/supervisors from non-E&I disciplines including Process Safety and Environment/Health/Safety groups requiring support in E&I related matters. The responsibilities can change from time to time depending on business need and can be assigned accordingly.

Job Duties

  • Lead complex troubleshooting of E&I equipment while working with technicians, operators and other stakeholders.
  • Determine condition of E&I equipment for suitability to continue to run and potential for breakdown.
  • Develop scope of repair of E&I equipment.
  • Predictive and Preventive:
    • Regular monitoring of critical assets, understand cause(s) in consultation with stakeholders and supporting roles. Identify corrective actions, report through various channels and SAP and help prioritize against other competing priorities.
    • Develop, optimize, improve preventive or predictive maintenance plans. Steward the performance of predictive/preventative programs for assets in their respective area.
    • Steward continuous improvement in predictive and preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Lead the identification, planning and implementation of reliability improvement initiatives
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for events impacting asset reliability
  • Lead the development of Management of Change (MOC) processes for Maintenance changes. Lead small design changes, alternate part selection, reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of asset strategies, obsolescence strategies, spare parts and optimization
  • Support Turnaround/Outage scope development (ensuring asset proactive repairs ensure the expected level of reliability), planning and execution (e.g. Shutdown support for equipment, QA/QC for repairs, Startup support)
  • Support scope development, planning and execution for corrective maintenance repairs. Identify spare part requirement to support maintenance work.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual maintenance/expense/capital budgets and Long-Range Plan (LRP).
  • Provide input into capital project design, FAT/SAT, commissioning
  • Provide reliability input into Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) reviews

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

  • Minimum five years of heavy industrial experience in electrical, instrumentation and control systems troubleshooting, selection and design, commissioning and maintenance/reliability

Education Level

  • P. Eng or eligibility for P.Eng is an asset
  • Degree in Electrical / Instrumentation / Electromechanical / Mechatronics
  • Technologist Diploma in Electrical / Instrumentation / Electromechanical / Mechatronics with additional years of relevant experience

Work Conditions

  • High degree of activity – high stress when addressing significant incident and emergency activities
  • Ability to be at heights of around 150ft while climbing up the ladders mounted on the refinery distillation columns
  • Ability to lift 25lb of weight
  • Ability to work near high noise area with hearing protection
  • Ability to enter confined spaces
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions with personal protective equipment (PPE) like hard hat, eye protection, fire retardant clothing, ear protection, safety boots, gloves etc.
  • Although it’s rare but should have ability to use PPE like full face mask for SCABA, harness for fall protection
