Basic Function

The Lubricants & Specialties division of HF Sinclair is seeking a full-time Market Insights Manager. The Market Insights Manager will play a critical role in understanding value chains, market dynamics, and the Real-Win-Worth approach to evaluating opportunities for growth.  This individual will serve as a thought leader, gathering, and analyzing market data providing valuable insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and highlighting growth opportunities for our business. This role will focus on understanding and monitoring market trends, competitive landscape, customer preferences, and industry dynamics helping to enable our team to identify opportunities to drive growth within existing segments as well as new applications and adjacent markets.

Job Duties

Market Insights

  • Real-Win-Worth: provides objective scores at expert reviews at each stage of insight. Is the idea big enough to matter? Do we have the capacity to win? What new innovation is required to win?
  • Develops tangible insights for new and existing markets by conducting market research and analysis to identify market trends, understand value chains within these markets, customer needs, and competitive intelligence in the lubricants and specialties industries
  • Gathers and analyzes data from various sources, including market reports, industry publications, customer surveys, and internal databases, to generate actionable insights
  • Identify potential opportunities and threats by monitoring and tracking market dynamics, including changes in customer preferences, regulatory developments, and technological advancements
  • Collaborates with sales, marketing, and product development teams to develop market strategies, product positioning, and pricing strategies based on market insights
  • Prepares and presents reports, presentations, and dashboards to communicate market insights and recommendations to key stakeholders, including senior management
  • Develops and executes market research projects, including designing surveys, conducting interviews, and analyzing data to gain deeper customer insights
  • Conducts competitive analysis to assess market share, pricing strategies, product offerings, and marketing activities of key competitors
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to evaluate new market segments, assess market entry strategies, and identify potential partnerships or acquisitions
  • Stays up-to-date with industry trends, market research methodologies, and best practices to continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of market insights
  • Provides support and guidance to sales and marketing teams in developing customer segmentation, targeting, and positioning strategies based on market insights
  • Utilizes data analytics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement in marketing performance
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the marketing department
  • Stays informed about industry best practices and benchmarks
  • Communicates effectively with stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment with organizational goals
  • Works closely with cross-functional teams to develop new market strategies, identifying product needs and a go to market plan

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

  • A minimum of 12 years of directly related experience to this role is required
  • Proven experience in market research, market analysis, or business intelligence 
  • Experience working with the lubricants, specialty products or a related B2B industry is a strong asset

Education Level

  • A minimum of a Post-secondary education required
  • A Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, market research, or a related field. Master's degree is preferred

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret complex data from multiple sources
  • Proficiency in market research methodologies, including survey design, data collection, and statistical analysis
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex market insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate market insights into actionable recommendations
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, execute, and monitor market research projects within tight deadlines
  • Passion for market research and a genuine interest in understanding customer needs and market dynamics in the lubricants industry
  • Working knowledge of SalesForce is an asset

Work Conditions

  • This is an office based role in Mississauga, Canada or Dallas, USA. Other locations may be considered 
  • Business travel will be required

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping. Job conditions may require making visual inspections, lifting and/or carrying up to 25lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 25lbs, climbing up to 3ft, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, with valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance, working in confined spaces, and perceiving color differences.
