Basic Function

Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company is seeking a full-time Materials Technologist/Inspector. Reporting to the Coordinator Inspection, the Materials Technologist is responsible for building, compiling, and executing systems to monitor and track the fixed pressure equipment and piping records in Utilities process area (Boilers and water treatment/SRU/Amine and Flares).

Job Duties

  • Ensure compliance with industry, company and local jurisdiction codes relative to the fixed pressure equipment
  • Responsible for creating and managing record systems for vessels, tanks, piping and Pressure Safety Valves
  • Manage and co-ordinate non-destructive testing programs (NDT) and core inspection programs
  • Communicate and address daily issues related to static equipment or piping with Maintenance and Operations
  • Participate in failure analysis, root cause analysis, HAZOPs and materials selection processes.
  • Direct contract inspection/NDE resources
  • Assist maintenance processes with shutdown planning and inspection support via SAP
  • Provides technical direction in an Area Team environment for fixed equipment in assigned unit areas of responsibility
  • Develop inspection plans for various types of static equipment

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

  • 2 – 5 years of inspection experience in a related role
  • Experience in a Petrochemical/Refinery is preferred

Education Level

  • A technical graduate of a materials related discipline (Materials or Welding technology)
  • Certified API 510/570 certification is preferred

Required Skills

  • Knowledgeable on the application of Risk Based Inspection (RBI) and Asset Integrity Strategies
  • Working knowledge of API 653 as well as 579, 580, 581. Certification of API 510 or API 570 is an asset
  • Knowledge of root cause failure analysis, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques, welding processes and basic metallurgy
  • Excellent decision-making skills
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic SAP proficiency
  • Ability to foster team participation
  • Self -starter
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to build construction relationships with our customers, government agencies, contractors and manufacturers

Work Conditions

  • This role is an on-site role, located at the Lubricants Facility at 385 Southdown Road, Mississauga
  • This is a safety sensitive position
