Basic Function
Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company is seeking a Team Lead, Operations Turnaround. Reporting to the Operations Director, the Team Lead, Operations Turnaround is a key leadership role of the Mississauga Lubricants facility. The Team Lead, Operations Turnaround is accountable for ensuring safe, reliable, compliant and successful turnarounds within the Operations Department, while leading and owning the HF Sinclair operations readiness process for Mississauga. The Team Lead, Operations Turnaround oversees and coordinates Turnaround activities on behalf of the Operations Department.
Job Duties
- Supports the Operations Group to deliver competitive turnarounds (T/A) durations/intervals focused on ready for and return from maintenance and other activities affecting Operations during T/A and Outages
- Own the ready for and return from maintenance processes for all outages
- Implement high value operational learning events into turnarounds and outages
- Partner with Area Team Leads to ensure all Operations T/A processes planning and execution is safe, effective and compliant
- Ensure effective implementation of corporate and site initiatives associated with operating performance during T/A, and outages
- Understands upcoming significant maintenance activities and assist operations and planning to ensure effective, efficient and safe execution of all
- Represent operations in the planning and scheduling of T/A and outages, as well as in the execution of complex maintenance activities and projects
- Act as the focal point for conduct of operations during all unit outages and T/A
- Coordinate operations scope submittals, working with all scoping teams to ensure consistent risk alignment and participate in scope challenge sessions
- Progress preparation and planning of operations T/A activities such as: ready for maintenance/chemical cleaning/decontamination best practices, energy isolation and systemization approach strategies, permit process, manpower strategy, units shut down and startup work processes and operational procedures
- Progress preparation and planning of training and documentation to enable flawless operations execution through ensuring operators capability
- Maintain a constant overview of the start-up and commissioning process to ensure that tasks are being accomplished safely, in compliance with established procedures and projected timelines
- Develop work process metrics and define key performance indicators (KPIs) for operations during all phases of turnaround events (pre-turnaround, RFM, mechanical window, post-turnaround)
- Capture lessons learned from turnarounds activities, with a focus on the operational space
- Lead T/A operations contractor teams and temporary resources (both hourly and salary) as necessary
Experience
- A minimum 15 years related refinery operations, combined with some engineering/maintenance experience
- Supervisory or leadership experience in a complex, dynamic operating environment. This position is for an experienced operations leader who has participated in multiple turnarounds in several units
- Deep understanding of operations, production, process safety standards is preferred. Experience or familiarity with Utilities, Refining/Lubricant process is an asset
Education Level
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience, is required
- A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred

- A significant amount of experience in the energy industry is preferred and direct experience in operations turnaround management is preferred
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
- Responsible for the supervision of employees and students that are assigned to the operations turnaround team
Work Conditions
- Office and refinery based
- Outdoor duties under wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions
- Industrial environment, including, but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks and rotating equipment

Physical Requirements
Job conditions require lifting up to 50 lbs, sitting, climbing up to the height of a unit, and bending. In some circumstances, must be available for weekend and after hour call-outs or be on call and able to respond to emergency situation 24 hour a day for assigned units and on call as part of the Response Management Team on a rotating basis for the entire plant. Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and respirator as needed. Ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is required.
