Title: Process Safety Engineer

Basic Function
Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company is seeking a Process Safety Engineer. Reporting to the Team Lead Process Safety, the Process Safety Engineer will be responsible for providing technical and policy guidance to the organization on issues related to process safety. The Process Safety Engineer will provide a resource for all levels of the organization in clarifying and implementing improvements in process safety. This position will be responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of process safety programs from both a standards compliance and technical perspective.
Job Duties
- Maintains and coordinates the refinery’s Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) program
- Leads or conducts special studies/analysis of process safety related issues (facility siting, risk analysis, etc.)
- Monitors the effectiveness of the Process Safety program
- Participates in PHAs, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and other risk management activities
- Investigates process safety related incidents as assigned
- Assists in the development and tracking of process safety metrics
- Identifies and seeks opportunities to promote continuous improvement
- Regarded as one of the leading in-house authorities on process safety
- Interfaces with all plant departments and corporate to help coordinate all process safety activities
- Shares process safety knowledge with other operations
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience in operations, engineering and/or process safety
- Experience facilitating PHA’s and/or LOPA’s is an asset
Education Level
- Engineering Degree (Chemical/Process Engineering preferred)
- P. Eng
- Engineering Degree in Chemical/Process Engineering preferred

- Process Safety Management knowledge
- Knowledge of plant work processes and reliability tools and processes
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated self-motivation and initiative in identifying business drivers and resolving the root cause of problems
- Demonstrated innovative and creative thinking and problem solving
- Able to recognize win-win situations that do not compromise process safety
- Takes an open-minded approach to allow for creative solutions, while maintaining a level of operating discipline
- Leverages corporate or external resources when dealing with process safety related issues
- Diverse knowledge of process operation and equipment strongly preferred
- Knowledge of process controls and process safety systems preferred
Work Conditions
- Position is part of the engineering department and may be asked to perform other assignments within the engineering department’s functions
- Office and Petroleum Refinery/Industrial environment subject to varying road and weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures including out-of-doors

- The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $130,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications
