Basic Function

Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company is seeking a full-time Quality Control Technologist. Reporting to the Quality Control Team Leader, the Quality Control Technologist is responsible for ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, and on-time delivery in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role supports daily product blending, bulk loading and packaging activities and works closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Technology, and Laboratory teams. This is an execution-focused, manufacturing-support role rather than a research or bench-laboratory position. Success in this role requires strong judgement, prioritization skills, and comfort working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

Job Duties

Production & Manufacturing Support

  • Generate and issue product formulation sheets to support daily manufacturing operations
  • Review bulk loading schedules and provide quality input as part of order fulfillment activities
  • Review and provide quality input to Basestock tank switches
  • Manage inventory related to tank heel batch number tracking within SAP
  • Provide real-time quality support to manufacturing and packaging teams to prevent delays

Quality Oversight & Product Release

  • Ensure blended, bulk and packaged products meet internal specifications, customer requirements, and regulatory standards
  • Review and approve quality of incoming raw materials, including entry of third-party laboratory data into SAP
  • Issue Certificates of Analysis for bulk shipments departing the Mississauga site
  • Maintain the product retain sample program
  • Investigate and manage non-conforming products, including product recovery through rework, adjustment, correction, or waiver decisions

Cross-Functional & Operational Alignment

  • Actively participate in daily cross-functional meetings to support on-time and in-full (OTIF) delivery
  • Serve as a technical liaison between Quality and other departments such as Manufacturing/Operations, Technology, Laboratories, Sales, Customer Service, and Supply Chain teams
  • Support regional facilities and terminals as required
  • Review and provide quality input regarding marine shipments

Compliance & Continuous Support

  • Ensure compliance with Quality Control Procedures, work instructions, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Support audits, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives related to product blending, release, and shipment activities
  • Occasional off-hour coverage may be required

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a laboratory, quality, or manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with specifications, procedures, and quality systems
  • Comfortable supporting production operations under time-sensitive conditions

Education Level

  • College Diploma in Chemical Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, Laboratory Technology, Industrial Chemistry, or a related applied science discipline

OR

  • Equivalent hands-on experience in a quality control or manufacturing support role with a specification-driven or regulated environment
 

Required Skills

  • High attention to detail with strong execution discipline
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

 

  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Working knowledge of HFLS product lines and formulations
  • Good understanding of ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and White Oil / Food Safety Regulations

Work Conditions

Normal office working conditions on-site in a manufacturing environment. Flexible work schedule as the job requires the ability to work in a fast-paced and result oriented environment, covering multiple production shifts and geographic regions. Some off-hour coverage is required which can be done from home. Must be physically capable of meeting the requirements listed below. Required to work in petroleum refinery environment, warehouse/plant environment and out of doors environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressures vessels, tanks. Required to work in all temperatures indoors/outdoors and near moving mechanical parts and/or rotating equipment.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, climbing, lifting, twisting, talking, listening and making visual inspections. Must be physically able to climb stairs and industrial accesses (e.g. ladders, trucks) and lift up to 23Kg/50lbs. Must don Personal Protective Equipment as required by work location.
