Title: R&D Product Specialist

Basic Function
Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company is seeking a full-time Product Specialsit to join our Lubricants & Specialties Technology/R&D team that has designed over 350 premium quality lubricants for automotive, industrial and specialty applications. Reporting to the Product Development Manager, Specialty Fluids and Grease, you will be responsible for product development and providing technical expertise for industrial and specialty lubricants.
Job Duties
- Recognized as a product specialist/expert by internal members of the organization
- Develop formulations for a range of lubricant products and validate their performance against industry and OEM standards
- Develop expertise in lubrication science and lubricant applications
- Develop expert knowledge of industry and OEM standards including the growing areas of lubricant sustainability and environmentally acceptable lubricants
- Apply a range of scientific principles accurately and effectively to support research and technical support activities.
- Assist with laboratory work which will include preparing samples for analysis, executing physical testing and coordinating testing with external laboratories. Mandatory for Junior Product Specialists to develop understanding of tests and test requirements
- Responsible for obtaining data, preparing tables and analysis of data
- Taking responsibility to direct the work of Research Technologists
- Provide technical leadership and support to Marketing, Sales, Technical Services and customers
- Provide product issue resolution support (including production blending) and collaborate within the organization to solve problems
- May be required to liaise with industry to help shape and influence product specifications and industry standards (e.g. ASTM, AGMA, API, and OEM specific specifications)
- Adhere to all safety, quality (ISO 9001, IATF 16949) and environmental (ISO 14001) standards, procedures and initiatives. Document and maintain records
- Drive for timely completion of product development activities. Steward to project timelines and efficiently employ resources
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of related work experience is required
- Comprehensive knowledge of lubricant products, applications and the petroleum industry. Strong relevant work experience Prior industry and R&D experience is preferred but not required
- Demonstrated laboratory experience. Experience in a chemical or petroleum laboratory is preferred
Education Level
- Graduate degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (M.Sc., Ph.D., M.Eng.) is preferred
- Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree (B.Sc., B. Eng.) will be considered with relevant experience
Required Skills
- Knowledge and capability in lubricant formulation development is preferred
- Aware of technological trends and industry advances
- Familiar with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, OEM quality programs and initiatives
- Demonstrated communication skills including strong technical writing and presentation skills
- Excellent computer and data analysis skills
- Demonstrated project management, leadership and planning skills
- Ability to work well within a team and independently is critical
- Innovative, creative and technically savvy with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Results and customer focused
Work Conditions
- Work environment is a combination of lab and office. This is an on-site daily role, Monday to Friday
