Basic Function

Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company, located in Mississauga is seeking a Supervisor for our Quality Control Laboratory. Reporting to the Manager, Analytical & QC, the QC Lab Supervisor is responsible for managing a team of unionized QC Lab Technicians that are responsible for performing testing analysis to support the safe operations of the Refinery and the release of on-spec products.

Job Duties

  • Supervise a team of unionized Lab Technicians to perform testing analysis while ensuring safety and performance standards are met
  • Manage Lab Technicians performance and development as per the Performance Based Progression (PBP) program and the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
  • Collaborate with HR and Union to handle personnel issues such as grievances, attendance management, corrective counseling, promotion, performance, hiring process, and any other issues
  • Lead all QC lab activities to comply with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 requirements
  • Act as a QC Lab liaison in all collaboration projects with other departments
  • Plan and schedule sufficient resources to support the business
  • Lead the Lab Technicians to execute activities to minimize unplanned downtime
  • Collaborate with other departments to investigate issues and concerns related to the QC Lab
  • Lead by example by advocating the One HF Sinclair values (Safety, Integrity, Teamwork, Ownership, Inclusion)
  • Empower Lab Technicians by helping them grow in the role through coaching, developing, recognizing and celebrating their accomplishments through appropriate rewards as per company policy
  • Be available after hours to handle unplanned situations

Experience

  • Hands-on Experience with Refinery and Oil testing analysis
  • Supervisory Experience in a unionized environment
  • Supervisory Experience in an Analytical Testing Laboratory
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 accredited laboratory

Education Level

  • B. Sc. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

  • Be available after hours to handle unplanned situations

Work Conditions

  • Office based within a refinery/manufacturing site. Required to work in Lubricants laboratory and refinery environment, warehouse/plant environment, and outdoor environment including but not limited to with chemicals, tank wagons, tank cars and tanks. On call/available 24 hours, 7 days a week due to refinery operations.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, climbing up to 20ft, reaching or grasping, wearing personal protective equipment, advanced level of reading, writing, and performing math calculations, perceiving color differences, and effective communication with others.
