Title: Hydro Supervisor

BASIC FUNCTION:
The Hydro Supervisor is responsible for providing the reliable production of quality products by organizing the employees, planning maintenance turnarounds and evaluating equipment failures at our Petrolia, Pennsylvania Sonneborn facility. They also coordinate movement of inbound raw materials used as Hydrotreater feedstock and may backup other supervisors on occasion.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)
- Uncompromising attitude towards the safe work performance of the organization, its employees and those who visit.
- Develops sound safety guidelines that meet Plant and Corporate guidelines and practices good housekeeping, Ensures employee training is up to date
- Oversees maintenance and contractor work at the Hydro, ensuring all work follows safe work and life critical procedures
- Supervisory responsibilities for the Hydro Operators. Positive leadership capabilities through stressful situations.
- Reviews daily production schedules with employees to ensure department is meeting production plans. Provides timely communications pertaining to problem situations.
- Provides daily review of operational problems requiring maintenance and scheduling repairs with maintenance.
- Maintains inventory control management programs.
- Recommends improvements in organization, policies and methods to increase efficiencies.
- Use the Plant's inventory system to ensure that the data is current.
- Maintain good employee relations and adherence to labor contract. Assist in handling of grievances.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of ten years of job-related chemicals, industrial, manufacturing or related experience is required with at least five years in a supervisor role preferably in a unionized environment.
EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:
- A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a technical discipline is required.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field (Chemical Engineering or similar) is preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- A strong knowledge of mechanical concepts, chemical processes and process design.
- Strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate with diverse individuals in a unionized environment.
- Ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations, intermediate reading and writing skills.
- Ability to lead others and projects and to coordinate efforts throughout the department.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and computerized operations planning software experience.
- Must have demonstrated leadership competencies.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience using SAP.
- At least 2 years working in a hydrotreater.
SUPERVISORY/MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Will rotate with another supervisor to provide oversight to operations bargaining unit employees to perform work safely, efficiently and to a quality standard during a 24/7 workweek.
- Will provide call out coverage for South half of the plant working with the Boilerhouse/Process Water Treatment Plant Supervisor.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Work is performed both in an office and outside. Petroleum refinery-based environment including but not limited to chemical, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, working in confined spaces, and exposure to risk of electrical shock. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions. Occasionally required to work long hours which may include nights, weekends, holidays for regularly scheduled maintenance and emergency work and support as well as on-call availability.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted). Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
