Title: Intern Chemist

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under close and frequent supervision conducts routine chemistry/laboratory assignments for the Lab Department.
JOB DUTIES:
(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)
- Assists with samples and conducts standard tests on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products and may train others to perform standard tests depending on location
- Assists with testing that is carried out as per established methods/procedures
- Assists with reviewing records, reports, and certifies results
- Assists with routine maintenance and calibrations on laboratory equipment
May also perform other duties, including:
- Assists other departments in sampling, testing, and compliance monitoring
- Ships samples designated as hazardous
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
EDUCATION LEVEL:
Some completed courses needed for a bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field is required.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Basic knowledge of college-level chemistry and chemical names/terminology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated computer ability: Microsoft products including Word and Excel
- Ability to work independently
- A strong interest to work in a Chemical Plant environment long term
- Close attention to detail
- Troubleshooting skills
WORK CONDITIONS:
Work is generally conducted within a laboratory environment located within a chemical facility. May require sample testing from the field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job conditions require standing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, and wearing personal protective equipment (beards not permitted). Job conditions may require sitting, walking, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, and lifting and/or carrying up to 10lbs, and pushing and/or pulling up to 10 lbs, and perceiving color differences, and strenuous physical activity.
