Title:  Intern Chemist

Sonneborn, an HF Sinclair company, is seeking a motivated Chemist Intern to join our team. This position will support the Manufacturing Technology Department by conducting routine chemistry/laboratory assignments for the department. The intern will work under close and frequent supervision while gaining hands‑on experience in laboratory programs and operations.

• Collect, prepare, and test samples of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products using established methods and procedures.
• Perform routine laboratory testing and accurately document results.
• Assist with reviewing laboratory records and verifying testing documentation.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
• Support other departments with sampling, testing, and compliance monitoring activities.
• Prepare and ship samples designated as hazardous materials in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and follow applicable safety, quality, and operating procedures.

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Some completed courses needed for a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field are required.

• Basic knowledge of Chemistry concepts.
• Ability to apply knowledge analytically.
• Stay abreast of new technological developments and processes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
• Experience with statistical analysis of data.

Petroleum refinery and driver-based environment including but not limited to chemical, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, working in confined spaces, and exposure to risk of electrical shock. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations. Depending on location, you must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
