BASIC FUNCTION:

Assist the Transportation Manager in maintaining all operations having to do with the requirements of the department which includes scheduling and coordinating all outbound shipments with trucking carriers, 3rd party warehouses, and internal shipping operations.  Each member of the department will generally handle one specialty area and work as back-up for other areas.  These areas include rail, trucks and 3rd party warehouses.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Uncompromising attitude towards the safe work performance of the organization, its employees and those who visit.
  • Schedule and monitor bulk and packaged shipments.
  • Coordinate with carriers and internal departments.
  • Maintain shipping schedules and communicate changes.
  • Manage the integration of all 3rd party warehouses utilized by Sonneborn including maintaining blending/shipping scheduled, communicating with carriers, tracking efficiency of each warehouse and maintaining paperwork including purchase orders, shipping documents and invoices.
  • Communicate and remedy any issues with 3rd party warehouses.
  • Log details and maintain various spreadsheets in order to provide useable reports and data as needed.
  • Maintain data within SAP management system, freight spreadsheets & customer data specific spreadsheets.
  • Understand rate schedules/transit times/cost comparisons/delivery details/requirements and understand importance to all parties involved.
  • Assist sales with freight rate requests.
  • Assist with auditing freight invoices for payment approval & processing.
  • Assist as needed and as trained.

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years transportation experience in an industrial facility.

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

  • Associate's Degree in related field

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience entering, maintaining and utilizing computerized systems for decision making.
  • Understanding of transportation rules, regulations and laws.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize the needs of the plant with the availability of transportation sources.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure due to constantly shifting demands.
  • Intermediate working experience using Micrsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Willingness to communicate changes and needs regularly/timely with numerous internal & external parties/vendors involved.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • Comfortable working in an environment where details and needs change rapidly and could be ambiguous.
  • Ability to problem solve, be flexible and timely communicate when necessary.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Work is primarily performed in an office setting.  Candidate must be capable of performing majority of work through email or telephone calls. Constantly changing demands and limited external resources due to transportation industry dynamics may occur.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping. Job conditions may require making visual inspections, lifting and/or carrying up to 25lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 30lbs, climbing up to 3ft, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, with valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance, working in confined spaces, and perceiving color differences.
