Basic Function

Sonneborn, an HF Sinclair company in Petrolia, Pennsylvania is seeking a Shipping Superintendent. This person is responsible for the immediate supervision of the Shipping and Wax Caking departments. The position maintains safety, quality and delivery standards while optimizing production efficiency. Position facilitates work teams to maintain continuous operations.

Job Duties

  • Uncompromising attitude towards the safe work performance of the organization, its employees and those who visit.
  • Direct supervision of all Supervisors and support personnel in the assigned departments as well as the bargaining unit employees assigned to the Shipping and Wax Caking departments.
  • Coordinating of the plant shipping demands.
  • Investigates and directs correction of equipment and operational problems.
  • Maintains housekeeping standards and safety practices.
  • Handles second step grievances and maintains a good rapport with the union.
  • Ensures understanding of the CBA by all salaried direct reports and sits on the Company negotiation team.
  • Provides leadership in training, sustaining and facilitation of the team process in safety, health and environmental, quality, cost-competitiveness, procedures, policies and customer satisfaction.
  • Resolves conflicts expeditiously.
  • Recommends, develops and implements improvements in organization, procedures, policies, standards, specification methods, processes, equipment and sound maintenance and engineering practices to promote a safe workplace, to be environmentally responsible and to increase efficiencies.
  • Communicates with peers and work teams to enhance employee relations and enrich employee morale.Ensures that manufacturing and shipping schedules are executed as outlined by schedule.
  • Conduct and participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations to drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with the Supply, Planning, and Transportation teams to ensure adherence to production schedules.

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as deterined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

  • 5+ years in a refinery/petrochemical or industrial production management capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership role and high-performance work teams.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or related work experience is required.

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to lead and direct the work of others.
  • Team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions with solid time management skills to effectively multi-task, meet deadlines and manage complexity within the workday.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to delegate tasks and projects effectively.
  • Understanding of Shipping and Warehouse Management.
  • Willingness to be a hands-on leader with strong activity and visibility on the floor.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Supervises operations bargaining unit employees as well as salaried administrative employees and Unit Supervisors to perform work safely, efficiently and to a quality standard during a 24/7 workweek.

Work Conditions

Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required.  Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted). Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination.  Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
