Basic Function

The Sales Manager is responsible for soliciting new process oil sales while servicing existing accounts in assigned geography of LA, TX, OK, NM, AZ, NV, CA, UT, CO and other states as determined. Process Oils are used in many industrial manufacturing applications, therefore strong selling skills along with a technical or chemical aptitude and industrial chemical sales experience is preferred. This region has significant asphalt-based applications so experience in this market would be preferred.

Job Duties

  • Complete customer accountability in assigned geography including pricing recommendations, volume growth, margin and revenue management for direct customer accounts and/or distributors
  • Aptitude for understanding customer applications and value based selling techniques
  • Establish productive, professional relationships with key personnel internally as well as at assigned customer accounts
  • Identify potential new customers/large distributors and develop and execute appropriate account plans for stability and growth
  • Negotiate long term contracts
  • Meet goals set for profitable sales margin, volume growth and strategic objectives in assigned accounts and territory
  • Proactively lead joint company-strategic account planning processes that develops mutual performance objectives, financial targets, and critical milestones for the account
  • Proactively assess, clarify, and validate customer and/or distributor needs on an ongoing basis
  • Lead solution development efforts that best address customer and/or distributor needs, quality or delivery issues, while coordinating the involvement of Marketing, Technical Service/Sales Advisors, Sales Managers, Sales Support, etc., to fully engage the customer in a long term relationship
  • Use CRM platform ( to manage and track customer relationship management at the head office level for existing customers and/or distributors and business development opportunity funnel, including call reports/value files, at the head office level
  • Identify, manage and negotiate innovative new business opportunities with close interaction with internal resources
  • Manage and problem solve high priority/escalated items
  • Price and margin management of assigned accounts
  • Obtains and provides complete account information, including credit applications and tax exemption certificates for setting up new accounts, and works with Credit to ensure timely payments of invoices
  • Learning and operating within the parameters of the account-based and team-based sales processes
  • Represent HF Sinclair at industry events and trade functions to obtain new sales opportunities and promote brand loyalty and product awareness
  • Helps train distributor sales representatives, monitors performance to business plan with distributor owners and management, and makes sales calls with distributors

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time, in their sole and complete discretion


  • Industry related process oil sales experience or the aptitude for application-based sales of specialty chemical products in diverse manufacturing settings
  • Previous experience in the sales of process oils or specialty chemicals and knowledge of the compounding of rubber, polymer or asphalt product applications preferred


  • Post-secondary education required however, a combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered
  • B.A. or B.S in Business, Chemistry or Technical Degree preferred  

  • MBA with an undergraduate degree in business, chemistry or other technical related field preferred

  • Strong crisis management skills: ability to handle situations involving conflicts arising out of products being off specification, short/long term refinery/logistical/human error, product outages, customer complaints, etc.

  • Previous experience in formulating and executing key client account plans with a focus on a solution-selling methodology
  • Ability to measure and document results in a sales environment
  • Comfortable and confident in writing and delivering presentations
  • Chemical, mechanical or industrial process aptitude and/or interest
  • Computer literacy to ensure efficient communication and maintenance of accounts
  • Use of Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with SAP and Salesforce preferred
  • An understanding of supply and distribution processes and refining procedures preferred
  • Experience in end use markets including paints and coatings, rubber and polymer, asphalt modifiers, adhesives and sealants and chemical additives preferred


Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility


Work Conditions

  • This is a home-based role with approximately 70-80% travel required
  • The assigned territory for this Sales Manager is preferred in the Southwest U.S. and:
  • Must reside within 50 miles of a large or medium hub commercial service airport
  • Fleet Vehicle Reimbursement program provided
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • No Travel restrictions within North America or Internationally
  • Occasionally will be required to work in an industrial or refinery environment

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping. Job conditions may require making visual inspections, lifting and/or carrying up to 25lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 25lbs, climbing up to 3ft, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, with valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance, working in confined spaces, and perceiving color differences.
