Basic Function

Reporting to the Director of Finished Lubricants Sales, the Head of Refrigeration Technology will lead the global technical and product innovation strategy for the refrigeration lubricants portfolio including Suniso and Reflo. Ensuring product performance leadership, OEM approvals, and alignment with the transition to low-GWP, A2L and natural refrigerant technologies.

Job Duties

  • Technical Leadership & Innovation:
    • Defines and leads the technical roadmap for refrigeration lubricants across synthetic and mineral product lines (POE, PAG, AB)
    • Oversees new product development (NPD) programs in collaboration with global R&D labs, focusing on next-generation low-GWP refrigerants
    • Manages formulation design, additive optimization, and testing for miscibility, solubility, and material compatibility
    • Supports the development of OEM-specific formulations
  • OEM & Industry Collaboration:
    • Acts as technical interface between Petro-Canada and global refrigeration OEMs, compressor manufacturers, and system integrators
    • Drives OEM approvals and qualification programs to expand product acceptance and global specifications
    • Represents PCLI at industry conferences and standards bodies
  • Technical Support & Training:
    • Provides expert technical guidance to global sales and marketing teams on refrigeration lubricant performance, application, and troubleshooting
    • Develops and delivers technical training programs for distributors and OEM partners
    • Builds and maintains a knowledge database of test data, performance evaluations, and field trial results
  • Strategic Business Support:
    • Partners with business leadership to identify technology-driven growth opportunities and differentiate the Suniso brand
    • Contributes to strategic partnerships for base stock, additive innovation and third-party manufacturing partners
    • Supports the evaluation of local blending and manufacturing opportunities to improve agility and reduce lead times

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in refrigeration or compressor lubricant formulation
  • Proven experience liaising with OEM and securing approvals
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamic systems and compressor design principles
  • Track record in leading R&D or technical teams across different geographical regions

Education Level

  • Technical Degree or Diploma in a related field of study however a combination of education and work experience will be considered
  • MSc/PhD in Chemical Engineering, Lubrication Science, or Polymer Chemistry is highly preferred

  • Strategic thinker with expert technical and commercial awareness
  • Excellent knowledge of lubricants development, testing protocols, equipment application and performance, and equipment reliability
  • Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams as well as working independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills coupled with excellent written communication and oral presentation skills for audiences of varying sizes, backgrounds, and levels of expertise

Work Conditions

  • Based out of a home or HF Sinclair office, preferably in North America
  • Must reside within 50 miles of a large or medium hub commercial service airport, due to customer locations
  • Approximately 50% travel globally
  • Must have no restrictions on traveling within North America or internationally
  • Must have valid driver’s license
