Title:  Senior Data Scientist

Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Senior Data Scientist anywhere in the US who will be responsible for analyzing large PI and API datasets to extract valuable insights, develop predictive models, and support data driven decision making processes..

Job Duties

• Leads and provides strategic and long term improvements for the Data Science capability within the Refinery Operations.
• Leads the Data Science Development Community of Practice to foster and teach data science capabilities to traditional technical roles across the fleet.
• Partners and works closely with IT Teams to build the necessary infrastructure to support data products from the data science capability.
• Leads and provides technical support for projects requiring data science capability with processing data, modelling, data visualization and/or automation of data analysis to solve complex problems.
• Partners and works closely with the facilities to identify new opportunities for projects and providing analytical support to address operational challenges as they arise.
• Partners and works closely with facility personnel and corporate personnel to implement sustainable products from proof of concepts.
• Research and provides industry point of views on use of data science methods to incorporate into the innovation road map.

Experience

• 5+ years experience in the Refining Industry in a Process Engineering or other technical role.
• 3+ years experience in a Data Science role.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Knowledge around the use of process data historians
• Knowledge around multiple refinery process unit technologies
• OSI PI Asset Framework or equivalent experience
• Experience in delivering modern/digital solutions that include AI/ML Software

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or other related fields, or equivalent work experience in lieu of a four-year degree is required.

Required Skills

• Experience with OSI PI Infrastructure
• Knowledge of refinery process unit technologies and general refinery oil flow.
• Experience in programming languages such as Python and SQL.
• Experience with utilizing machine learning packages within Python.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power Bi.
• Ability to foster strategic partnerships with business partners
• Ability to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making.
• Solid critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, consensus building, leadership capabilities, and drive for results
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have demonstrated success in managing projects.
• Strong ability to influence at all leadership levels
• Self-starter with the drive and ability to achieve planned objectives.
• Strong ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment as a team player
• Strong communication and change leadership
• Coaching, mentoring, career planning, and skills development
• Ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations
• Must fluently and clearly speak, read, and write in English

PREFERRED SKILLS:

• Proficient in Power BI
• Proficient in Python coding
• Experience in Generative AI
• Experience with Streamlit

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May act as team leader during special projects, and may manage contractors and vendors.

Work Conditions

Remote Based with up to 25% travel by land or air is required. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions. Occasional long hours, as well as nights and weekends as needed.
