Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Senior Endpoint Systems Engineer,specialized in VDI, anywhere in the US or preferably in Dallas,TX as we are embarking on a strategic transformation of our virtual desktop infrastructure, migrating from a traditional on-premises platform to cloud-based solutions. As a Senior Endpoint Systems Engineer, you will serve as a principal architect and administrator for our VDI environment, leading the migration effort, optimizing ongoing operations, and establishing best practices for administration and operational excellence.

 

You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting scalable VDI solutions that enhance our digital workplace, ensure security and compliance, and deliver exceptional end-user experiences.

Job Duties

 

  • Lead the migration of virtual desktop environments from Citrix to Microsoft AVD and Omnissa Horizon, including planning, execution, and post-migration support.
  • Architect, implement, and optimize cloud-based VDI solutions to support diverse workforce needs across multiple sites.
  • Administer AVD and Horizon platforms, managing configuration, provisioning, resource allocation, software deployment, and security policies.
  • Develop and enforce VDI security policies, including Conditional Access, Zero Trust principles, and integration with Azure AD and other identity solutions.
  • Leverage automation tools (PowerShell, REST APIs, etc.) to streamline deployment, patching, and ongoing VDI management.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve VDI performance and connectivity issues, collaborating with infrastructure and support teams as needed.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for VDI-related incidents and escalations, including complex troubleshooting and project implementation.
  • Champion operational excellence by continuously improving VDI processes, documenting procedures, and recommending enhancements to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Maintain enterprise-wide VDI configurations, including image management, application packaging, and profile solutions.
  • Support secure remote access strategies, BYOD policies, and endpoint protection within the VDI environment.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership, network/security teams, and vendors to align VDI strategy with business goals and industry best practices.
  • Define technical strategy for VDI management, including capacity planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Mentor teams, share knowledge, and drive innovation in VDI technology adoption and administration.
  • Engage with vendors and industry partners to evaluate new technologies and optimize VDI solutions.
  • Set performance expectations for operational support and administration within the VDI team.
  • Take on additional assignments as needed, based on business priorities and leadership direction.

Experience

A minimum of eight years of experience with VDI engineering and administration in a multi-site, enterprise environment is required, including hands-on expertise with Microsoft AVD, and Omnissa Horizon. 

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in MIS or Computer Science, or equivalent years of experience in lieu of a degree, is required. 

Required Skills

Extensive experience designing, deploying, and administering VDI platforms such as Citrix, Microsoft AVD, and Omnissa Horizon in enterprise environments is complemented by strong troubleshooting skills across VDI performance, connectivity, and application delivery. Proven ability to lead migration projects and drive transformation initiatives is supported by experience in creating technical documentation and training materials. Excellent written and verbal communication skills enable effective translation of complex technical concepts for diverse audiences, while strong organizational capabilities ensure successful project planning, time management, and collaboration within cross-functional teams.

 

Prior experience leading VDI migration projects from Citrix to Microsoft AVD and Omnissa Horizon, as well as a strong background in designing and enforcing security and compliance policies in cloud-based VDI environments. Familiarity with integrating VDI operations into broader IT initiatives through collaboration with security, networking, and infrastructure teams is valuable, along with hands-on experience using Nerdio for deployment, optimization, and management. Experience with IGEL, Intune, and SCCM is considered advantageous for enhancing endpoint management and user experience. Additional strengths include mentoring technical staff, leading complex problem-solving efforts, and applying IT service management frameworks such as ITIL, with a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging VDI technologies.
