Basic Function

HF Sinclair in Sinclair, WY is seeking an Industrial Hygienist who conducts public health duties and assignments for the HES Department under minimal supervision. May direct or lead the work of others from time-to-time.

 

Job Duties

(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Identifies, evaluates, measures and controls employee hazards in the refinery
  • Updates programs and policies periodically and ensures that there are constant evaluations for areas of improvement and change
  • Works with exposure assessment for all employees and contractors
  • Prepares entry and hot work permits
  • Serves as a radiation safety director, asbestos coordinator, and incident safety officer
  • Serves in the respiratory protection program, hearing protection program
  • Provides training to new hires

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their superior, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

 

Experience

A minimum of ten years of experience is required.

 

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in public health and/or industrial hygiene, or education and/or equivalent experience. 

 

Required Skills

Must have knowledge of public health and industrial hygiene and be able to apply this knowledge as it pertains to the company. Ability to effectively communicate with others, intermediate reading and writing, and an ability to perform intermediate level mathematical calculations.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Special training in emergency response/Hazmat and a certification in radiation safety is preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Work Conditions

Office and refinery based with travel up to 25% of the time by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment, and driver based environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, working in confined spaces, and exposure to the risk of electrical shock, wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 50lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 50lbs, climbing up to 100ft, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid state driver’s license and proof of insurances required, perceiving color differences, and wearing personal protective equipment.
