Basic Function

HF Sinclair in Sinclair WY is seeking an Unit Process Operator to safely and reliably operate the process and equipment to meet strategic business goals.

Job Duties

•    Ensure safety procedures are followed. 
•    Recognize hazards and takes action to eliminate/mitigate and “Stop Work” if necessary.
•    Participate in shift turnovers.
•    Pass all Operator testing, training in Process Safety Management, Occupational Safety and Health regulations and perform all Operator requirements as needed.
•    Work12-hour rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
•    Work alone on a required portion of the unit.
•    Follow emergency procedures including interlocks, emergency shutdown, vapor release and escape pack use, loss of power and/or utilities.
•    Communicate appropriately both inter and intra shift and with other departments in person or via radio or telephone.
•    Behave in a manner that promotes teamwork.
•    Demonstrate a desire for continuous learning.
•    Follow-through on commitments made to others.
•    Create and maintain a well-organized and professional-looking work area.
•    Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


High school diploma or equivalent and ACT Workkeys for Job Seekers-Work Place Documents and Graphic Literacy. College, industrial or prior process operations experience a plus. Must be able to read, write and understand instructions, procedures and policies written in English. Computer experience preferred. Must be able to work fair amounts of overtime, some of which is required.

Required Skills

Computer experience a plus. Knowledge of the location and function of all unit vessels and basic process flows. Know how to use Personal Protective Equipment, fill out Job Safety Analysis, look up a Material Safety Data Sheet, safety procedures and how to use all unit safety equipment. Know Lock Out Tag Out procedure, how to fill out permits and proper use of five gas detectors. Knowledge of chemical, electrical and safety hazards. Knowledge of Environmental Limits and how to respond to non-compliance, spill containment and reporting. Knowledge of environmental procedures when draining hydrocarbon and other chemicals, flaring and controlling leaks and spills. Knowledge of rotating equipment, proper lubrication, emergency shutdown, vibration and temperature monitoring and location of switch gear. Knowledge of rail car and truck loading and unloading, how to operate the forklift, Rail King and other supporting equipment.
