Basic Function

HF Sinclair Parco Refining LLC in Sinclair, WY is seeking a Renewables Engineer to Lead and conduct process engineering duties and functions as a technical resource, formulating and developing advanced engineering concepts for the Wyoming Renewable Diesel facility and PARCO Operating units.  Assist in all technical aspects in support of plant optimization and strategic and business development.

Job Duties

(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Primary point of contact and site ownership for Renewables.
  • Functions as ARA, PTU, RDU process engineering lead as well as any other unit assignments at the discretion of Process Engineering Supervisor. for determining optimial unit efficiency, catalyst health, economic strategies and forward looking metrics for reliable operation.
  • Provides discipline specific engineering assistance, direction and development assistance to colleagues
  • Solves technical problems related to projects and troubleshoots and updates report data for business unit(s).
  • Analyzes related components and systems, processes and methods, and renewables processes and economics
  • Develops and reviews project scopes for completeness, accuracy and business intent.
  • Works as part of Technical Services process engineering group Optimizes business unit(s) and analyze data to aid operations with decisions.
  • Researches and stays abreast of assigned discipline subjects, innovations and leading edge developments.
  • Proposes and develops projects based on industry innovations and leading edge technology backed with economic evaluation details.
  • Supports commercial and compliance team and help trouble shoot technical and process issues relating to carbon intensity measurement.
  • Manages LCFS data and leads the audit process.
  • Coordinates and manages site visits for verifications and QAP.
  • Proposes and recommends improvements to improve carbon intensity.
  • Supports commerical and business development team in all technical aspects related to future internal and external investment opportunities including but not limited to carbon capture and sequestration, cogen, and sustainable aviation fuel.
  • Key technical resource evaluating processing capability and technology requirements neceseary to meet PTU feedstock specification for feedstock opportunity currently under evaluation.

May be required to do some or all of the following:

  • Coordinate, facilitate and document Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and participate in and facilitate incident investigations.
  • Participate in, facilitate and support Process Safety related audits and Layers Of Protection Analysis (LOPA) reviews and assist in Process Safety action items solution development.
  • Design plant equipment and devise processes for manufacturing chemicals and products.
  • Determine most effective arrangement of operations.
  • Implement processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost efficient manner.
  • Investigate and resolve work-in-process problems.
  • Recommend and implement improvements and/or modification in sequence of operations, equipment utilization, and related matters.
  • Review proposals of outside vendors regarding the purchase of new or modernization of existing processing equipment.
  • Assist with clean fuel and other company initiatives/projects as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between the company and county and state and/or other agencies.
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by the Technical Services Supervisor, as determined from time to time at their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of ten years of progressive work experience in the process engineering discipline.  A strong understanding of basic renewable diesel processes and the elements of process safety is required for Process Safety Engineering discipline. 

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Renewable diesel and feed pretreatment industry experience preferred.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in the Chemical Engineering discipline is required. 

Required Skills

Ability to manage a project is essential.  Working knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically.  Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential.  Ability to communicate effectively with others, strong verbal communication skills, advanced level of reading and writing, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations.  Advanced ability to work effectively with multiple groups.  Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications knowledge; strong interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to provide training to multiple groups on a variety of applicable assigned discipline topics. 

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Working knowledge of and experience with engineering software is preferred. 

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May be responsible for the supervision of personnel as well as contractors.

Work Conditions

Office and plant based with up to 50% travel required.  Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceiving color differences,  required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid State driver’s license and proof of insurance required.  Job conditions may require making precise hand and finger movements, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
