Basic Function

HF Sinclair Parco Refining LLC in Sinclair, WY is seeking a Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer to be a technical resource to other departments with regard to rotating equipment. This position will develop and monitor real-time data programs that optimize maintenance resources and bring the refinery closer to a condition-based maintenance (CBM) program.

Job Duties

 (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Working with other departments, perform a criticality assessment of rotating equipment based upon safety, environmental, production, and maintenance considerations
  • Use metrics such as the mean time between failure (MTBF) to ascertain chronic problems on critical rotating equipment
  • Provide data to help trend mechanical failures, maintenance activities, and other key performance indicators in a score card type format to help identify problems with maintenance, operational or engineering activities
  • Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) on critical rotating equipment with chronic problems
  • Implement, develop, and monitor predictive maintenance programs in areas such as lubrication, vibration, and thermography
  • Provide technical expertise and work with contractors that provide predictive/preventive maintenance analysis and service functions
  • Provide technical assistance to maintenance during major repairs and turnarounds on rotating equipment
  • Assist in the technical direction and design input for implementation of rotating equipment projects
  • Periodic supervisor weekend duty coverage for the maintenance department
  • Follow-through on commitments made to others

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline is required. 

Experience

A minimum of three years of progressive work experience in a specific engineering discipline.  A strong understanding of basic refinery processes and the elements of process safety is required for Process Safety Engineering discipline.  Emphasis on power distribution and controls engineering is required of the electrical discipline depending on assignment. 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Professional Engineer registration is preferred. Refinery or petrochemical industry experience preferred. Some or all of FCC, CCR, Alky, Sulfur unit, Delayed Coking, Lubes Processing and hydrotreating experience is preferred for Chemical discipline depending on assignment.

 

Required Skills

Ability to manage a project is essential. Working knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically. Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential. Ability to communicate effectively with others, strong verbal communication skills, advanced level of reading and writing, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations. Advanced ability to work effectively with multiple groups throughout the refinery. Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications knowledge; strong interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to provide training to multiple groups on a variety of applicable assigned discipline topics. Knowledge of various process hazard analysis and root cause analysis methodologies is required for Process Safety Engineering discipline.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Working knowledge of and experience with engineering software is preferred. 

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May be responsible for supervising contractors depending on assignment.

Work Conditions

Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required.  Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences,  required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential (inability to maintain standard insurance rates is grounds for dismissal), valid State driver'™s license and proof of insurance required. Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination.  Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
