Basic Function
Conducts engineering assignments for the Engineering Department, working independently and acting as resource and lead position for less experienced personnel.
Job Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)
- Responsible for project cost, schedule, safety on all assigned projects
- Responsible for all project management activities on assigned projects
- Develops gate packages and inputs all forms within DealPoint (gate forms, AFE, (CAP or XO)
- Assembles reports as required by management
- Schedules all project meetings
- Manages/inputs all forecasts
- Monitors Cost (cost reporting)
- Develops project execution plan and contracting strategy
- Controls project change management
- Responsible for PSM on all assigned capital projects.
- Leads Management of Change (MOC) processes from MOC creation/HAZOP to PSSR signoff. Ensures MOC Action Items are tracked to completion.
- Handles all project closeout documentation and project lookbacks
- Verifies that HF Sinclair Engineering Practices are followed and assigned projects are in compliance
- Accountable for ensuring that spares are set up, assets created, and all technical documentation
- Heavily involved in execution planning and schedule development.
- Works closely with the Project Controls Supervisor, Field Service Coordinators, and contractors in the field to interpret engineering packages and ensure efficiency and quality during execution.
- Responsible for all technical aspects of assigned Capital/Expense projects
- Preliminary and detailed design (coordinates with all out of house and in-house technical disciplines)
- Equipment specification and bidding
- Estimating
- Engineering Work Package development
- Meeting engineering deadlines
- Quality of engineering and project approval deliverables
- Implementation of HF Sinclair Engineering Practices on all projects
- Acts as a mentor to other engineers
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
Experience
A minimum of 10 years, 15 preferred, of project engineering/management work experience in a specific engineering discipline.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Professional Engineer registration is preferred. Refinery or petrochemical industry experience preferred.
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering discipline is required.
Required Skills
Ability to manage a project is essential. Working knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically. Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential. Ability to communicate effectively with others, strong verbal communication skills, advanced level of reading and writing, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations. Advanced ability to work effectively with multiple groups throughout the refinery. Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications knowledge; strong interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to provide training to multiple groups on a variety of applicable assigned discipline topics.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
May be responsible for the supervision of personnel as well as contractors.
Work Conditions
Office and plant based with up to 20% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, and out-of-doors environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions, and working in confined spaces. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions.
