Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Maintenance Planner who can conducts maintenance assignments and duties for the Maintenance Department under limited supervision. Increases the efficiency of the maintenance process through the creation of safe and cost effective job plans, and schedules depending on location. 

Job Duties

  • Reviews and assigns crafts/resources to daily work authorization in the assigned maintenance system  
  • Creates sketches, drawings, and bill of material for miscellaneous work
  • Acts as liaison with other departments for scope & procedure procurement
  • Ensures proficient operations of some or all of the following software (depending on location):  Primavera P-3, AutoCAD, Excel, Word, Outlook, Microsoft Project, LeanKit, assigned maintenance system (SAP), and MicroStation
  • Identifies resources and cost estimates to specific job tasks
  • Orders MTL and/or other special materials when required
  • Verifies drawings and approval sign offs for in-kind equipment replacement
  • Interacts with purchasing department on all bid items for material specifications and weld procedures
  • Confirms field verification and dimensional checks on in-kind equipment replacements to verify conformance to specifications

Other duties may include some of the following:

  • Identifies outside contractors required for turnarounds or as required
  • Creates bid packages, award bids, and executes jobs from start to finish
  • Plans Turnaround work-steps and procedures for assigned facilities including material, labor resources and equipment/tools
  • Identifies the necessary tools, materials, and resources needed to complete a pre-identified task and creates daily and turnaround work scopes
  • Performs Supervisory Relief functions as needed at assigned Plants, and on-call duties depending on location
  • Performs as Night Supervisor during actual Turnarounds when required
  • Ensures management is fully informed of any potential shortfalls/problems in daily assignments as needed
  • Monitors and enforces contractor compliance to all refinery safety and environmental regulations and participates in contract negotiations
  • Tracks head count and verify timesheets to ensure cost and schedule compliance

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

A minimum of seven years of job-related experience is required, depending on location.  

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Construction experience is preferred.

Education Level

A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. 

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

Trade school or journeyman/craftsman training is preferred. A bachelor’s degree is preferred depending on location.

Required Skills

Knowledge of refinery operations and craft knowledge. Intermediate level leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication. Basic reading and writing skills and the ability to perform basic level mathematical calculations. Proven interpersonal skills. Self-starter and safety sensitive. Troubleshooting skills and ability to function effectively in a team atmosphere.  Knowledge of safe work practices. Computer skills necessary to operate assigned maintenance system, Microsoft Word, Excel, SAP, LeanKit, Outlook, and Internet Explorer. Ability to lead and train a small group of employees. Multi-tasking and team orientation skills.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Depending on location, occasional relief supervisor responsibilities of hourly maintenance employees for various foremen or may be responsible for the supervision of 12 to 15 employees. May be responsible for oversight of up to 50 contract employees. Serve as project manager for special assignments as required.

Work Conditions

Office and field based with up to 5% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment, and driver based environment, including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment and working in confined spaces. Subject to varying road and weather conditions. Periodic overtime required. Required to respond to plant related emergencies and be available after hours during critical business situations depending on location.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise finger and hand movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 30lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 50lbs, climbing up to 200ft, and ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, perceiving color differences, ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted), and strenuous physical activity.
