Title: Maintenance Supervisor PFT & Yard

Basic Function
Oversee certain functions and activities of the Pipefitter/Welder and Yard shops, supervising and coordinating activities of assigned staff and resolving problems and issues as they arise under limited supervision.
Job Duties
- Oversee safety, quality of work and overall performance of craftsmen with the goal of improving safety and efficiency of workflow.
- Gives work directions to assigned employees in assigned areas.
- Evaluates assigned employees’ job performance and craft progression through structured one-on-one meetings (quarterly for more senior craftsmen and monthly for new hires for the first six months).
- Assist engineering as needed in completion of work.
- Coordinates with operations in scheduling equipment for repairs and construction (depending on assignment).
- Track head count and verify employee timesheets to ensure cost and schedule compliance.
- Ensure conduct of craftsmen is in alignment with company policies for code of conduct, attendance, etc. using performance management tools provided by the company.
- Work with shop planner and operations PRS group to plan and execute all work in the shops with emphasis on coordinating day-to-day work with operations and taking care of “E” orders.
- Help train and orient new employees regarding safety policies and work practices.
- Ensure quality of work through proper documentation and use of QA/QC process.
- Learn and implement Continuous Improvement/Lean principles and ensure flow of ideas through waste elimination board.
- Arrange for training and/or certification of craftsmen as needed.
- Use visual management boards to track Key Behavioral Indicators (KBI’s) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) with the goal of improving safety and overall workflow in the shops.
- Complete 1 Safety Observation per week and 2 Energy Isolation Audits per month and ensure that all craftsmen complete at least one Peer-to-Peer safety audit per month and maintain the safety visual board.
- Manage on-call and vacation schedules for craftsmen.
- Spend as much time in the field and in the shop as possible to mentor craftsmen and help improve workflow by removing barriers and frustrations.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their manager, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of related on-the-job experience and a significant amount of energy industry experience is required.
Education Level
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience, is required.
Required Skills
Basic knowledge of refinery operations. Specific craft knowledge. Good interpersonal skills, self-starter and safety sensitive. Troubleshooting skills and ability to function effectively in a team atmosphere.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Welding or weld inspection experience.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
Responsible for the supervision of up to 18 employees.
Work Conditions
Refinery based. Required to respond to plant-related emergencies and be available after hours during critical business situations depending on location. Outdoor duties under wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions. Industrial environment, including, but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks and rotating equipment. Will be required to work in petroleum refinery environment and may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, dust, dirt, mud, water, and/or petroleum products. Work in all types of weather conditions and work under stressful conditions on occasion.
Physical Requirements
Job conditions require lifting up to 50lbs, climbing to heights up to 300ft sitting, standing, walking, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movement, reaching or grasping, working on ladders and bending. May have to work in confined spaces. Job conditions require ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, valid State driver’s license and proof of insurance, and ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted).
